Christmas is fast approaching...
as in, it's this Sunday!
For the first time ever,
I am hosting Christmas at my
apartment place of residence...
I'm a little nervous, but I have my menu all planned out.
I went and did a little shopping at Costco today
(parking was a nightmare),
and will finish up my grocery shopping at Winco tomorrow
(I'm leaving the girls at home. My goal is to be in and out of that mad house ASAP!)

Well, if you are in charge of the dessert, and need a "fancy" dessert that will taste heavenly,
but need it to be fairly quick and easy,
then have I got the dessert for you!
This Pumpkin Gingerbread Trifle is amazing.
I made it for a girls night out this past month,
and it hit the spot!
I originally found the recipe here,
and I will definitely be making this dessert again!
Pumpkin Gingerbread Trifle
1 box Gingerbread Cake Mix and the ingredients to make it (eggs and water)
4 cups cold milk
2 small boxes of instant butterscotch pudding
1 can (15 oz.) pumpkin (NOT canned pumpkin pie filling)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. each: ground ginger, nutmeg, and allspice
1-2 containers Cool Whip
Bake the gingerbread cake according to package directions. Cool completely.
Mix the milk and pudding according to package directions. Place in fridge for about 5 minutes.
Stir in the canned pumpkin and spices.
In a large trifle bowl, begin by crumbling the gingerbread cake and line the bottom of the bowl.
Then add a layer of the pumpkin mixture, followed by a layer of Cool Whip.
Repeat layers, reserving about 1/4 cup of crumbled cake for the top.
Top with Cool Whip and garnish with crumbled cake.
Eat immediately, or store in fridge until ready to eat!

I love Christmas!
And I dislike the saying, "Happy Holidays",
just so you know!
One of the gifts I am giving this year is a Christmas wreath.
I'm giving it to my lovely mother, who is coming up to my place for the holidays.
Actually, my whole family is coming, and my brothers are bringing a couple of their friends
who don't have anyone else to celebrate Christmas with.
There will be 11 people crammed into our little apartment,
but I am welcoming everyone with open arms!
(Just so you know, it gets a little lonely without any family nearby...)
Now, back to the Christmas wreath...
My mom came up for Halloween,
and she saw my fall wreath, and loved it!
She told me she didn't have a Christmas wreath,
so I knew she had to have one!
Not only did I make one for her, but I made one for myself, as well.
I just love it!!
I used cream Vanna White yarn to wrap around a styrofoam wreath.
Up until a couple of months ago,
I had no clue that Vanna White had her own yarn collection!
But I loved working with it.
My fall wreath is wrapped with a cheap yarn,
and I can totally tell the difference.
If you're going to make your own yarn wreath, spend the extra $2.00 and go with Vanna's yarn.
Trust me on this one.
I also used burgandy felt, light green felt, and some pearl embellishments I had lying around...

This past weekend I was able to get together with some of my girlfriends,
and we all exchanged homemade ornaments.
My ornament was the twine star that you all voted on,
and I loved how they turned out!
I made 13 for the exchange, and I have about 7 more to make for some family and friends.
It was a lot of fun to participate in this little exchange,
and I was extremely excited to see what my friends ornaments looked like.
We met at the lovely hostess' house around 7 p.m.,
and we snacked on some yummy appetizers.
We put our ornaments on a piece of paper that had our name on it,
and when the night was finished,
we went around the room and picked up an ornament from each person.
I loved seeing how creative these ladies were,
and how their individual style came out in their ornament.
The top ornament was a felt wreath with little jingle bells on it.
Next to that one was a little bird that's perched on some twigs.
On the second row, there is a clear ornament with some colorful sequins on the inside.
Next to that is a felt pinecone and then there's a cinnamon star (it smells sooo good!)
followed by a silvery glitter ornament.
On the third row, the ornament is coated with some glitter and wrapped with a ribbon that says,
"Merry Christmas" and has a burgandy paper filling. Next to it is a snowflake ornament made from flour, water, and some other things (I can't remember what she told me...). Next to the snowflake is a little snowman made from beads that is strung with wire and has a little piece of fabric for a scarf.
Then there is the gold glitter pinecone made from my good friend over at Portobello Road.
The ornament on the 4th row is made from a satin material covering a plastic ornament and embellished with a ribbon. Next to that is a lovely little clay bird (amazing, right?) followed by a little crocheted snowflake. Then I took a picture of the bag the hostess made for each one of us to take our ornaments home in.
If you're still looking for some neighbor gifts, these ornaments are excellent ideas for inexpensive, homemade gifts.
I had a lot of fun making all my ornaments,
and I would love to do it again next year!

Good morning my dear friends!
It is sunny and cold here in the Great Northwest,
but I love it!
For Thanksgiving, my family was able to go to my aunt and uncle's house,
and while we were there, my aunt loaded me up with crafts!
She loves to sew and craft,
and she gave me a couple of things that I thought would make great neighbor gifts.
This little washcloth is simply one that she found at the Dollar Store,
but she sewed a little green scrubber in one of the corners.
When I saw this, I was just speechless.
Literally, my jaw dropped, and I just couldn't stop thinking,
"Why didn't I ever think of this?"
Such a simple idea, inexpensive to make,
but yet it's something that I would use daily!
What a perfect gift idea! It would literally take about $0.75 to make one,
(the washcloths come in a two-pack at the Dollar Store)
and you know it's a gift that isn't going to be put on the shelf.
It'll be a gift that will be used every day.
There's even a cute little saying that goes with it
"I'm a little dishrag,
As you can plainly see.
Look in my corner, and
you'll see my specialty.
There is a little Scrubby
in a special kind of shape
to help you get the leftovers
off your dinner plate!"

Mmmm..... got your attention?
Well, this little delicious creation has had my attention
every night for the past 3 nights...
I simply cannot get enough of this brownie!
Sometimes, I just need a little chocolate pick-me-up,
but I don't always want to bake a whole batch of brownies.
Because I usually eat the whole pan in a day....
It's no bueno.
But! With this mug brownie,
I have one single serving,
I get my little chocolate pick-me-up,
and I feel good!
The recipe is super easy (I had it memorized after just using it one time),
and it takes about 1 1/2 minutes to prepare, and 1 1/2 minutes to bake!
Say what? 3 minutes from start to finish?
Yeah, I know you're liking this already. Ha!
I wish I would have been clever enough to think this up,
but I wasn't. I found the idea here
So, if you try this, let me know what you think!
3 Minute Mug Brownie
1/4 c. flour
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
2 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder
pinch of salt
Mix all dry ingredients in a microwavable mug.
Mix until there aren't any lumps.
Lumps are no bueno.
2 TBSP vegetable or canola oil
2 TBSP milk
Mix until a paste forms.
Cook in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes.
The time may vary because all microwaves cook differently. :)
After it's done cooking, let it sit for awhile.
It's extremely hot, and I don't want your little tongue to get burned!
