Map Coasters

My husband recently got a new job.  And it pays real money!  We have been married about 4 years and I have supported our little family throughout most of those years.  But I did not mind because he was going to college and getting different licenses (real estate, mortgage broker, appraiser, etc.).  He was in the pursuit of happiness... right?  Well he finally found his way...a Commercial Appraiser.  And even though the job market is in the dumps in Portland, through a lot of patience and persistence he found a job!  I am so proud!  A friend of ours gave him a referral to get his foot in the door and it paid off.  Ben decided he wanted to give him a thank you gift.  So we talked about some different options, finally I suggested some coasters I could make with old war maps.  Ben was in the Marines, so he loved the idea!  These are really easy and you could use any maps really.

Here are the items you need:
Stone tiles
Paint brush
Mod Podge
Rubber or felt dots
Super glue

My husband found the maps online and sent me the images. I formatted
them all to 4"x4" and printed them on recycled khaki card stock.

I super glued (with the Super Glue Gel, this stuff is seriously awesome) the
rubber dots to the back of the stone.  I let it dry for about 24 hours.

I painted a few coats of Mod Podge to seal them.  And then my husband
wanted them shiny, so I put on some glossy Mod Podge instead of matte.

Look all ready to go with a cute bow and all.
This was a great gift that was both personal and functional.  And he loved it!

Happy Crafting,

  1. These are cute! I love that you put the rubber dots on the bottom of them.
